Une Prière de Moïse, l’homme de Dieu.

 A Prayer of Moses the man of God.

1 Seigneur, tu as été notre demeure de toutes les générations.

 1 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

2 Avant que les montagnes soient nées, ou que tu aies formé la terre et le monde, même de sempiternité, en sempiternité, tu es Dieu.

 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

3 Tu tournes l’homme à la poussière; et dis: Retournez, vous enfants d’hommes.

 3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

4 Car mille ans à ta vue sont seulement comme le jour d’hier lorsqu’il est passé, et comme une veille dans la nuit.

 4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

5 Tu les emportes comme par un torrent; ils sont comme endormis: le matin ils sont comme l’herbe qui pousse.

 5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.

6 Le matin elle s’épanouit et pousse; le soir on la coupe, et se fane.

 6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

7 Car nous sommes consumés par ta colère, et par ton courroux nous sommes perturbés.

 7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

8 Tu as placé nos iniquités devant toi, nos péchés secrets à la lumière de ton regard.

 8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

9 Car tous nos jours s’en vont par ton courroux: nous passons nos années comme un conte qui est raconté.

 9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

10 Les jours de nos années sont de soixante-dix ans; et s’il y a vigueur ils sont de quatre-vingts ans; cependant leur vigueur est travail et peine; car elle est bientôt retranchée, et nous nous envolons.

 10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

11 Qui connaît le pouvoir de ta colère? même selon ta crainte, ainsi est ton courroux.

 11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.

12 Aussi enseigne-nous à compter nos jours, afin que nous puissions appliquer nos cœurs à la sagesse.

 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

13 Reviens, ô SEIGNEUR, combien de temps? Laisse-toi te repentir concernant tes serviteurs.

 13 Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.

14 Ô rassasie-nous de bonne heure de ta miséricorde; afin que nous puissions nous réjouir et être contents tout le long de nos jours.

 14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

15 Rends-nous contents en proportion des jours en lesquels tu nous as affligé, et des années en lesquelles nous avons vu le mal.

 15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

16 Laisse ton œuvre apparaître à tes serviteurs, et ta gloire à leurs enfants.

 16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.

17 Et que la beauté du SEIGNEUR notre Dieu soit sur nous: et que tu établisses l’œuvre de nos mains sur nous; oui, l’œuvre de nos mains établis-la.

 17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.
