1 De plus, frères, je ne voudrais pas que vous soyez ignorants, comment tous nos pères furent sous le nuage, et tous passèrent à travers la mer;

 1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 Et furent tous baptisés en Moïse dans le nuage et dans la mer;

 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 Et ont tous mangé de la même nourriture spirituelle;

 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 Et ont tous bu de la même boisson spirituelle: car ils buvaient de ce Roc spirituel qui les suivit: et ce Roc était Christ.

 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

5 Mais en beaucoup d’entre eux Dieu n’eut pas grand plaisir: car ils furent terrassés dans le désert.

 5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6 Or ces choses furent pour nous des exemples, afin que nous ne convoitions pas de mauvaises choses, comme eux aussi convoitèrent.

 6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

7 Ne soyez pas non plus idolâtres, comme l’étaient quelques-uns d’entre eux, comme il est écrit, Le peuple s’assit pour manger et boire, et ils se levèrent pour jouer.

 7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

8 Ne nous laissons pas non plus commettre la fornication, comme quelques-uns d’entre eux commirent, et tombèrent en un jour vingt-trois mille.

 8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

9 Ne nous laissons pas non plus tenter Christ, comme quelques-uns d’entre eux le tentèrent aussi et furent tués par les serpents.

 9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

10 Ne murmurez pas non plus, comme quelques-uns d’entre eux murmurèrent aussi, et furent tués par le destructeur.

 10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

11 Or toutes ces choses leur arrivèrent pour servir de modèles: et elles sont écrites pour notre admonition, sur qui les bouts du monde sont venus.

 11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

12 C’est pourquoi que celui qui pense qu’il se tient debout prenne garde de peur qu’il ne tombe.

 12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

13 Aucune tentation ne vous a saisis telle qui’il est commun à l’homme: mais Dieu est fidèle, qui ne permettra pas que vous soyez tentés au-delà de ce que vous êtes capables; mais avec la tentation il vous donnera aussi un moyen d’échapper, afin que vous puissiez être capables de la supporter.

 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

14 C’est pourquoi, mes bien-aimés, fuyez l’idolâtrie.

 14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

15 Je parle comme à des hommes sages; jugez vous-mêmes de ce que je dis.

 15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

16 La coupe de bénédiction que nous bénissons, n’est-elle pas la communion du sang de Christ? Le pain que nous rompons, n’est-il pas la communion du corps de Christ?

 16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

17 Car nous étant nombreux, ne sommes qu’un seul pain, et un seul corps: car nous sommes tous participants de ce même pain.

 17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

18 Regardez Israël suivant la chair: ceux qui mangent des sacrifices ne sont-ils pas des participants de l’autel?

 18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

19 Que dis-je alors? Que l’idole est n’importe quoi, ou que ce qui est offert en sacrifice aux idoles est n’importe quoi?

 19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?

20 Mais je dis que les choses que les Gentils sacrifient, ils les sacrifient aux diables, et non à Dieu: et je ne veux pas que vous vous entreteniez des relations avec des diables.

 20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

21 Vous ne pouvez boire la coupe du Seigneur, et la coupe des diables: vous ne pouvez être participants à la table du Seigneur, et à la table des diables.

 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

22 Provoquons-nous le Seigneur à la jalousie? Sommes-nous plus forts que lui?

 22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

23 Toutes choses me sont permises, mais toutes choses ne sont pas opportunes: toutes choses me sont permises, mais toutes choses n’édifient pas.

 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

24 Qu’aucun homme ne cherche son propre intérêt, mais chaque homme le bien-être pour l’autre.

 24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.

25 Quoi que ce soit qui soit vendu à la boucherie, mangez-en, ne posant aucune question par motif de conscience:

 25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

26 Car la terre est au Seigneur, et tout ce qu’elle contient.

 26 For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.

27 Si l’un d’entre eux qui ne croit pas vous convie à un festin, et que vous soyez disposés à y aller; mangez quoi que ce soit qui soit mis devant vous, ne posant aucune question par motif de conscience.

 27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.

28 Mais si quelqu’un vous dit, Ceci est offert en sacrifice aux idoles, n’en mangez pas, à cause de celui qui vous le déclara, et par motif de conscience: car la terre est au Seigneur, et tout ce qu’elle contient.

 28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof:

29 La conscience, dis-je, non pas la tienne, mais celle de l’autre: car pourquoi ma liberté est-elle jugée par la conscience d’un autre homme?

 29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?

30 Et si par grâce je suis un participant, pourquoi parlerait-on mal de moi pour ce dont je remercie?

 30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

31 Soit donc que vous mangiez, ou buviez, ou quoi que vous fassiez, faites tout à la gloire de Dieu.

 31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

32 N’offensez aucunement, ni les Juifs, ni les Gentils, ni l’église de Dieu:

 32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

33 Comme je contente tous les hommes en toutes choses, ne cherchant pas mon propre intérêt, mais l’intérêt de beaucoup, afin qu’ils puissent être sauvés.

 33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
