1 Ne suis-je pas un apôtre? Ne suis-je pas libre? N’ai-je pas vu Jésus Christ notre Seigneur? N’êtes-vous pas mon œuvre dans le Seigneur?

 1 Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?

2 Si je ne suis pas un apôtre envers les autres, cependant je le suis sans aucun doute pour vous: car vous êtes le sceau de mon apostolat dans le Seigneur.

 2 If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

3 Ma réponse à ceux qui m’examinent est celle-ci:

 3 Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,

4 N’avons-nous pas le pouvoir de manger et boire?

 4 Have we not power to eat and to drink?

5 N’avons-nous pas le pouvoir de mener une sœur, une femme, comme les autres apôtres, et comme les frères du Seigneur, et Céphas?

 5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

6 Ou est-ce seulement moi et Barnabas qui n’avons pas le pouvoir de nous abstenir de travailler?

 6 Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?

7 Qui ne va jamais à la guerre à ses propres frais? Qui plante un vignoble, et ne mange pas de son fruit? Ou, qui nourrit un troupeau et ne mange pas du lait du troupeau?

 7 Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

8 Dis-je ces choses en tant qu’homme? Ou la loi ne le dit-elle pas aussi?

 8 Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?

9 Car il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse, Tu ne muselleras pas la bouche du bœuf qui piétine le maïs. Dieu, se soucie-t-il des bœufs?

 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?

10 Ou le dit-il entièrement à notre égard? À notre égard, sans aucun doute, il est écrit, que celui qui laboure doit labourer dans l’espérance; et que celui qui foule le grain dans l’espérance devrait être participant de son espérance.

 10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

11 Si nous avons semé en vous des choses spirituelles, est-ce une grande chose si nous moissonnons vos choses charnelles?

 11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

12 Si d’autres sont participants de ce pouvoir sur vous, ne le sommes-nous pas à plus forte raison? Néanmoins, nous n’avons pas usé ce pouvoir, mais supportez toutes choses, de peur que nous n’empêchions l’évangile de Christ.

 12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

13 Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui s’affairent aux choses saintes vivent des choses provenant du temple? Et que ceux qui servent à l’autel ont parti à l’autel?

 13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?

14 Oui certainement le Seigneur a ordonné que ceux qui prêchent l’évangile devraient vivre de l’évangile.

 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

15 Mais je n’ai utilisé aucune de ces choses: ni n’ai-je écrit ces choses, afin qu’il devrait ainsi en être fait envers moi: car il serait mieux pour moi de mourir, plutôt que quelqu’un anéantisse ma gloire.

 15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

16 Car bien que je prêche l’évangile, je n’ai rien de m’en glorifier: car c’est une nécessité qui repose sur moi; oui, malheur à moi, si je ne prêche pas l’évangile!

 16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 Car si je fais cette chose volontairement, j’ai une récompense: mais si c’est contre ma volonté, une dispensation de l’évangile m’est confiée.

 17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

18 Quelle est ma récompense alors? En vérité, que lorsque je prêche l’évangile, je puisse transmettre l’évangile de Christ sans frais, afin que je n’abuse pas de mon pouvoir dans l’évangile.

 18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

19 Car bien que je sois libre à l’égard de tous les hommes, cependant me suis-je fait serviteur envers tous, afin que je puisse en gagner davantage.

 19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

20 Et aux Juifs, je suis devenu comme un Juif, afin que je puisse gagner les Juifs; à ceux qui sont sous la loi, comme sous la loi, afin que je puisse gagner ceux qui sont sous la loi;

 20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

21 À ceux qui sont sans loi, comme sans loi (n’étant pas sans loi quant à Dieu, mais sous la loi quant à Christ), afin que je puisse gagner ceux qui sont sans loi.

 21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

22 Aux faibles, je devins comme faible, afin que je puisse gagner les faibles: je me suis fait toutes choses pour tous les hommes, afin que je puisse par tous les moyens, en sauver quelques-uns.

 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

23 Et cela je le fais à cause de l’évangile, afin que je puisse être participant avec vous.

 23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

24 Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui courent dans une course courent tous, mais un seul reçoit le prix? Alors, courez afin que vous puissiez l’obtenir.

 24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

25 Et tout homme qui s’efforce pour atteindre la prééminence est tempéré en toutes choses. Or ils le font pour obtenir une couronne corruptible; mais nous pour une incorruptible.

 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 Par conséquent ainsi je cours, non dans l’incertitude; ainsi je combats, mais non pas comme quelqu’un qui bat l’air:

 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27 Mais je maîtrise mon corps, et je l’amène en sujétion: de peur que d’une manière quelconque, lorsque j’ai prêché aux autres, je ne sois moi-même rejeté.

 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
