1 Or concernant les choses dont vous m’avez écrit: il est bon pour un homme de ne pas toucher une femme.

 1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

2 Néanmoins, pour éviter la fornication, que chaque homme ait sa propre femme, et que chaque femme ait son propre mari.

 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

3 Que le mari rende à sa femme la bienveillance qui lui est due: et de même aussi la femme au mari.

 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

4 La femme n'a pas de pouvoir sur son propre corps, mais le mari: et de même aussi le mari n’a pas de pouvoir sur son propre corps, mais la femme.

 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

5 Ne vous frustrez pas l’un l’autre, excepté si c’est par consentement pour un moment, pour que vous puissiez vous adonner au jeûne et à la prière; et revenez ensemble, pour que Satan ne vous tente par votre manque de maîtrise.

 5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

6 Mais je dis ceci par permission, et non pas par commandement.

 6 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.

7 Car je voudrais que tous les hommes soient tel que suis moi-mêmen 23. Mais chaque homme a son propre don de Dieu, l’un d’après cette manière-ci, et un autre d’après celle-là.

 7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.

8 Je dis donc aux célibataires et aux veuves, Il est bon pour eux s’ils demeurent comme je suis.

 8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

9 Mais s’ils ne peuvent se refréner, qu’ils se marient: car il vaut mieux se marier que de s’enflammer.

 9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

10 Et à ceux qui sont mariés, je commande, cependant pas moi, mais le Seigneur, Que la femme ne quitte pas son mari:

 10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:

11 Mais si elle le quitte, qu’elle reste célibataire, ou qu’elle soit réconciliée à son mari: et que le mari ne répudie pas sa femme.

 11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

12 Mais aux autres je dis, non pas le Seigneur: Si n’importe quel frère a une femme qui ne croit pas, et qu’il lui plaît de demeurer avec lui, qu’il ne la répudie pas.

 12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

13 Et la femme qui a un mari qui ne croit pas, et s’il lui plaît de demeurer avec elle, qu’elle ne le quitte pas.

 13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.

14 Car le mari non croyant est sanctifié par la femme; et la femme non croyante est sanctifiée par le mari: autrement vos enfants seraient impurs, mais maintenant ils sont saints.

 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

15 Mais si le non croyant s’en va, laissez-le partir. Un frère ou une sœur ne sont plus sous obligation en pareil cas: mais Dieu nous a appelés à la paix.

 15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

16 Car que sais-tu, Ô femme, si tu ne sauveras pas ton mari? Ou comment sais-tu, Ô homme, si tu sauveras ta femme ou non?

 16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

17 Mais comme Dieu a départi à chaque homme, comme le Seigneur a appelé chacun, qu’il marche ainsi. Et c’est ce que j’ordonne dans toutes les églises.

 17 But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.

18 Un homme est-il appelé étant circoncis? ne le laissez pas devenir incirconcis. Quelqu’un est-il appelé dans l’incirconcision? ne le laissez pas être circoncis.

 18 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.

19 La circoncision n’est rien, et l’incirconcision n’est rien, seulement l’observances des commandements de Dieu.

 19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

20 Que chaque homme demeure dans la même vocation dans laquelle il a été appelé.

 20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.

21 Es-tu appelé étant un serviteur? ne t’en soucie pas: mais si tu peux être rendu libre, sers-t’en plutôt.

 21 Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.

22 Car celui qui est appelé dans le Seigneur, étant un serviteur, est l’affranchi du Seigneur: de même aussi celui qui est appelé, étant libre, est serviteur de Christ.

 22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant.

23 Vous êtes achetés à un prix; ne soyez pas les serviteurs des hommes.

 23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.

24 Frères, que chaque homme, en ce en quoi il est appelé, y demeure avec Dieu.

 24 Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.

25 Maintenant en ce qui concerne les vierges je n’ai pas de commandement du Seigneur: cependant je donne mon avis, comme quelqu’un qui a obtenu miséricorde du Seigneur pour être fidèle.

 25 Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.

26 Je suppose donc que ceci est bon pour la présente détresse, dis-je qu’il est bon à l’homme d’être ainsi.

 26 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.

27 Es-tu lié à une femme? ne cherche pas à t’en détacher. Es-tu détaché d’une femme? ne cherche pas de femme.

 27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.

28 Mais et si tu te maries, tu n’as pas péché; et si une vierge se marie, elle n’a pas péché. Néanmoins de telles personnes auront de l’affliction dans la chair: mais je vous épargne.

 28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.

29 Mais je dis ceci, frères, la période est courte: il reste que ceux qui ont une femme soient comme s’ils n’en avaient pas;

 29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

30 Et ceux qui pleurent, comme s’ils ne pleuraient pas; et ceux qui se réjouissent, comme s’ils ne se réjouissaient pas; et ceux qui achètent, comme s’ils ne possédaient pas;

 30 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;

31 Et ceux qui se servent de ce monde, comme n’en abusant pas: car la mode de ce monde passe.

 31 And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

32 Mais je voudrais que vous soyez sans souci. Celui qui est célibataire prend soin des choses du Seigneur, comment il peut plaire au Seigneur:

 32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

33 Mais celui qui est marié, prend soin des choses du monde, comment il peut plaire à sa femme.

 33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

34 Il y a aussi une différence entre une épouse et une vierge. La femme célibataire prend soin des choses du Seigneur, afin qu’elle puisse être sainte et de corps et d’esprit: mais celle qui est mariée prend soin des choses du monde, comment elle peut plaire à son mari.

 34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

35 Et je dis ceci pour votre propre intérêt; non pas que je veuille vous tendre un piège, mais pour ce qui est bienséant, et afin que vous puissiez servir le Seigneur sans distraction.

 35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

36 Mais si quelqu’un pense qu’il se comporte d’une manière peu seyante à l’égard de sa vierge, si elle passe la fleur de son âge, et le besoin ainsi le requiert, qu’il fasse ce qu’il voudra, il ne pèche pas: qu’ils se marient.

 36 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

37 Néanmoins celui qui tient ferme dans son cœur, ne ressentant aucune nécessité, mais a le pouvoir sur sa propre volonté, et a ainsi décidé en son cœur qu’il gardera sa vierge, fait bien.

 37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.

38 Ainsi donc celui qui la donne en mariage fait bien; mais celui qui ne la donne pas en mariage, fait mieux.

 38 So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.

39 La femme est liée par la loi aussi longtemps que son mari est en vie; mais si son mari meurt, elle est libre de se marier à qui elle veut; seulement dans le Seigneur.

 39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

40 Mais elle est plus heureuse si elle demeure ainsi, d’après mon avis: et je pense aussi que j’ai l’Esprit de Dieu.

 40 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.
